Attempted murder arrests after man is run over

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was run over in Brighton yesterday (16th July).

At around 3.30pm on Saturday a man was found with serious head and chest injuries in The Causeway, which is near to Brighton Racecourse, after being run over by a green 4×4 vehicle.

The man, who is also believed to have been assaulted, is currently in a serious but stable condition at Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Two women, aged 26 and 29 and a 55-year-old man, who all live locally, have been arrested and are currently waiting to be interviewed by detectives. The man was treated for minor injuries at Royal Sussex County Hospital after being arrested, but has now been taken into custody.

Detectives investigating the incident believe it involves a dispute between two groups of people that know each other, which ‘got out of hand’. The police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick May, of Sussex Police‘s Major Crime Branch, said: “This appears to be a case in which a personal dispute between two groups of people has got out of hand.

“We believe these people are all known to each other and no other members of the public were involved at any point. We have three people in custody and at this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“Detectives from Sussex Police’s Major Crime Branch are in the early stages of investigating this incident and we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the incident take place in The Causeway yesterday afternoon.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who saw a green 4×4 vehicle being driven in The Causeway yesterday afternoon.”

Anyone with information should contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 1063 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
