It has been a memorable night in Brighton for the Green Party with their leader Caroline Lucas making history by winning the vote in the Brighton Pavilion constituency.

Ms Lucas secured a narrow victory ahead of Labour’s Nancy Platts with the Conservatives’ Charlotte Vere down in third, but elsewhere in Brighton and Hove it was a good night for the Tories with their victories over Labour in both Brighton Kemptown and Hove.

Mike Weatherley and Simon Kirby were both elected as MPs in constituencies previously held by Labour.

Nancy Platts (Labour) 14,986 – 28.9%
Charlotte Vere (Conservative) 12,275 -23.7

Ian Fyvie (Socialist Labour Party) 148 – 0.3%

Simon Kirby (Conservative) 16,217 – 38.0%
Simon Burgess (Labour) 14,889 – 34.9%
Juliet Williams (Liberal Democrat) 7,691 – 18.0
Ben Duncan (Green) 2,330 – 5.5%
James Chamberlain-Webber (UKIP) 1,384 -3.2%
Dave Hill (Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition) 194 – 0.5%

Turnout – 42,705 – 64.7%
