The children of Brighton and Hove have finally regained control of a number of the recreation parks in the city this weekend.
In fantastic sunshine hundreds of parents and small children took advantage of the refurbished parks in locations across the city after two months of hard (and seemingly slow) work.
Brighton and Hove City Council began work in 13 recreation parks as part of the My Play Space project in February thanks to £1.1m received from the Department of Children, Schools and Families.
The parks which reopened today included Dyke Road Park, Preston Park and Mile Oak recreation ground, where the children enjoyed a range of activities from treasure trails to face painting.
Sunday will see the official reopening of Queens Park and the Knoll recreation ground, among others. For more information visit the council’s website.
The completion of these parks is not the end of the project, as the following play areas have also been earmarked for improvement:
Aldrington Recreation Ground; Barn Rise; Bexhill Road; East Brighton Park; Easthill Park; Coldean; Happy Valley; Hodshrove Wood; Mackie Avenue; Saltdean Oval; St Ann’s Well Gardens; Stoneham Recreation Ground; Swanborough Drive; Tarnerland; Whitehawk Play Areas.
