Cyclist seriously injured in fall

A cyclist suffered serious head injuries after falling from her bike after apparently attempting to avoid a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

The 43-year-old woman, whose injuries are not believed to be life threatening, came off her bike on Stanford Avenue in Brighton this morning.

She was taken to Kings College Hospital in London by helicopter after the incident, which took place at 10.35 this morning.

The road was closed for almost three hours following the incident and police would like to speak to any witnesses.

Witnesses should call Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Rochford.
