Former Dororthy Stringer teacher jailed over child porn

A former assistant head at Dorothy Stringer school in Brighton has been handed a ten month prison sentence for making and possessing indecent images of children.

Kenneth Browne (pictured), 60, formerly of Havelock Road in Brighton, was sentenced at Hove Crown Court today (Thursday 24th February) after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to six charges of possessing and six charges of making indecent images of children.

He was arrested in July 2009 by officers from the Sussex Police Paedophile On Line Investigation Team (POLIT) after an apparent tip-off. At the time of his arrest Browne was an Assistant Head Teacher at Dorothy Stringer School.

Officers have clarified that the internet-related charges, which involved images of girls in the 10 to 13 age range, did not involve any children at the school.

Detective Inspector Ali Eaton said: “This was a complex and detailed investigation and the result reflects the seriousness of the offences. Although the majority of the images were not of the most extreme type, it must be understood that every such image represents child abuse. We will continue to follow up all such reports and prosecute whenever the evidence can be obtained.”

Browne is also required to sign the Sex Offenders Register for a ten year period, and has been banned for life from working with children.

    I went to this school and was taught by this teacher he was always really nice. I would have never thought that he would do such a thing.
