UKIP candidate fumes at BBC exclusion
United Kingdom Independence Party candidate for Hove and Portslade, Paul Perrin, has fumed at the BBC’s decision to exclude him from a feature on a BBC South Today programme.
The BBC show interviewed candidates from Labour, Conservatives and Liberal Democrats during the feature, but only briefly mentioned UKIP and the Green Party at its conclusion, leaving Perrin frustrated.
Perrin, who was also critical of being ignored by the Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce last month, explains that he has made several appeals to be included in hustings and other campaign events leading up to the General Election.
Perrin said: “What is really galling is that the old failed parties already get substantial coverage nationally and with their party election broadcasts. People already know what they stand for – the only thing that they seem to be competing with each other on is whose leader has the prettier wife.
“Meanwhile UKIP have a full range of policies that the public are not being informed about – everyone knows about our successful ‘Keep the Pound’ campaign which is paying huge dividends in keeping us competitive despite the recession that Labour has brought down on us.”
He added: “Everyone knows that we beat Labour, Lib Dems and the Greens in the EU elections last year, but our other policies are not being given airtime, and our candidates are clearly being ignored by the BBC – supposedly a public service broadcaster.”
