Huge fire destroys recycling centre in Bevendean

A huge fire has destroyed a waste recycling centre on Auckland Drive in the Bevendean area of Brighton this afternoon.

Seven refuse lorries have been damaged or destroyed in the blaze which started at around 2pm this afternoon.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue said the fire spread to areas containing waste paper before it was brought under control.

No-one was injured in the blaze which resulted in huge plumes of black smoke rising from the centre.

The cause of the fire is being investigated and has been described as suspicious.
