Hundreds attend Happy Valley traveller demo

Hundreds of residents from in and around Woodingdean attended a demonstration at Happy Valley against the possibility of the site being used as a permanent location for travellers.

Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby addressed the crowd in the latest event aimed at putting pressure on Brighton and Hove City Council not to consider the area.

The council is determined to find a permanent site for travellers in the city and is believed to be drawing up a shortlist of possible locations and it has been suggested that Happy Valley has been considered.

Last month a public meeting organised by Mr Kirby was attended by approximately 1,000 people with the majority stressing that Happy Valley is not a suitable location for travellers.

The council has launched a public consultation on the subject of travellers with the subject continuing to dominate the city’s politics.
