Man charged with raping woman found dead in Woodingdean

A man has been charged with the rape of Pauline Jenkins, who was found dead on Saturday morning at her home in Woodingdean.

Stephen Paul Edwards, 46, of Merevale, Brighton, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (8th February).

Pauline Jenkins was found dead in her home on Rosebery Avenue at 7am on 5th February by paramedics, who then called police.

A post-mortem found that she suffered from injuries consistent with rape, although the circumstances surrounding Pauline’s death are still being investigated.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Sloan, of Sussex Police Major Crime Branch, said: “I would appeal for anyone who has had contact with Mr Edwards to speak to police to help us build up a picture of his life.

“You may have had contact with him because you are a friend, family member or you have met Mr Edwards in a social capacity, either face-to-face or over the internet.”
