A group have occupied part of Victoria Gardens in Brighton in solidarity with the Occupy movements throughout the world.
Around 20 tents were set up near the fountain opposite the King and Queen pub on Saturday afternoon (29th October) ahead of the White Night festival in the city.
The ‘Occupy Brighton’ group held a meeting last week to discuss the appetite for action in support of similar protests in London, New York and in dozens of other cities.
After considering a number of public buildings, Victoria Gardens was chosen for the protest site and the group are insisting their presence will be peaceful and drink and drug free.
The group, who will be holding daily meetings at 2pm and 7pm, have been supported by the nearby The Blind Tiger Club, who will be supplying the campers with hot drinks during their stay.
However, opposition is expected as a similar movement in Old Steine during the summer by Pro Democracy campaigners was not welcomed by all and resulted in a party political war of the words on the council.
