Plans have been lodged with Brighton and Hove City Council to develop an area of derelict land in the centre of the city, which became known as ‘Brighton Mound‘ earlier this year after so-called guerilla gardeners began working on the land.
The site on the corner of Church Street and Portland Street in the North Laine area of Brighton has been empty for a number of years and a series of previous applications for development have been refused or withdrawn.
However, there is a planning approval for the construction of a four-storey building with basement parking and the latest application is to develop nine dwellings for retail and office use with basement level parking for 25 cars.
The site was adopted as a community garden and became known as Brighton Mound for a number of months earlier this year, but in May the landowner Hargreaves cleared the site with the use of JCBs.
