A Portslade man had to be treated in hospital for injuries sustained in an aggravated burglary at his home in Downland Court.
The 31-year-old victim was at home with his 29-year-old partner when at 10.20pm on Sunday 11th November a man knocked on the door claiming to be a neighbour who had a leaking pipe. After opening the door several men entered the flat and demanded money before striking the man with a wooden stick, causing injuries to his leg and eye.
The men ran off with cash and other items and headed towards Stonery Road where a small silver hatchback was parked.
Detective Sergeant Jackie Shaw said: “This was an extremely frightening experience for the couple in their own home and we are continuing to offer them our support. I’d like to reassure residents that crimes of this type are extremely rare.
“We are gathering forensic evidence at the scene and speaking to residents in the local area. If anyone witnessed any suspicious behaviour, or knows who committed this offence, they should contact police or Crimestoppers immediately.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 1406 of 20/11 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0845 60 70 999.
