Brighton squats facing demolition

Two buildings on the Brighton seafront that have been persistently home to squatters are facing demolition.

An application has been made to Brighton and Hove City Council to demolish numbers one and three at The Cliff in East Brighton ahead of an application to build three new properties on the prominent site.

The dilapidated bungalows have been squatted for a number of years, but the current tenants are facing eviction and the owner of the site is hoping to demolish the buildings to prevent and more squatters from returning.

In December 2010 a number of people were arrested after a fight at the squat and it was reported at the time that police would help the owner of the property deal with the problem.

The Cliff is located to the south of East Brighton Park and are near to the affluent Roedean properties which overlook the sea.
