Rottingdean conservation area extension proposed

The Rottingdean conservation zone could be extended under new proposals from Brighton and Hove City Council.

The council proposes extending the conservation area to include some gardens and allotments to the rear of properties on the Green adjoining Beacon Hill and to establish the boundary around the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Lourdes and the playing field to the rear of The Rotyngs.

The public are also to be consulted on the justification of including Nevill Road and the area around Golden Square and West Street in the proposed expansion.

The current Rottingdean Conservation area was formed in the early 1970s and includes the High Street and village green. The area has 54 listed buildings, eight locally listed buildings and an archaeological notification area.

If the draft proposal is approved by the council’s Environment Cabinet Member Geoffrey Theobald later this month residents will be granted six weeks to comment on the proposals.
