Staff at a convenience store in Whitehawk chased away a man who attempted to commit a robbery when armed with a large knife.
The man entered Mulberry Stores on Whitehawk Way at around 8.25pm last night (Sunday 21st August) and was brandishing a large knife as he demanded cash, scratch cards and tobacco.
However, he left empty handed after being chased out of the store by staff.
Detective Sergeant Steve Warner of Brighton and Hove CID said: “Although the staff were very brave in chasing the suspect out of the store, we would not recommend that members of the public confront armed offenders.
“Officers quickly attended the store and conducted an area search but the suspect was no where to be seen. We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the offender running off in the direction of Fletching Close, Whitehawk.”
The suspect is described as white, aged in his late 20s to early 30s and of slim build. He is described as having a blue eyes, a skinny face and a large pointed nose.
He had very messy short dark brown hair and was wearing a three quarter length dark coloured coat, blue jeans and black coloured trainers with silver stripes along the sides.
