Stranger warning for school children after Patcham incident

School children are to be warned of the dangers of talking to strangers after a suspicious incident outside Patcham Junior School in Ladies Mile Road earlier this week.

At around 9am on Monday 4th July a man pulled up alongside a 10-year-old girl who was on her way to school and asked if she wanted a lift.

The man, who was white and aged around 30, was driving a black car and was was wearing a black baseball cap back to front.

Inspector Bill Whitehead said: “There’s nothing to suggest at this stage that there was anything sinister in this incident, but we have asked schools to refresh the minds of their pupils with regard to personal safety and also parents to remain vigilant and promptly report to police anything that is viewed with suspicion.

“Safer schools partnership officers have been reinforcing the message in recent weeks as part of their routine visits to schools in the city.”

If anyone has any information on the Patcham incident, they are asked to call 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 986 of 05/07.
