An off-licence was robbed at knife-point in the Whitehawk area of Brighton yesterday evening (Monday 15th August).
A man entered the shop on Whitehawk Road at 8.50pm and threatened staff with a knife and demanded they handed over cash, top-up cards, cigarettes and scratch cards.
The man, who is described as very gaunt and unkempt, left the off-licence with these items and nobody was injured in the robbery.
Detective Sergeant Chris Sherwell said: “This is a serious offence and very frightening for the customer and staff who were in the store at the tine. Police have seized CCTV and are conducting forensic examinations, as well as speaking to local residents as part of the ongoing investigation. Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour is urged to contact police.”
The suspect is believed to be in his early 30s and is described as white, 5’6 to 5’8 and slim. He was wearing a blue hooded jumper and a grey jacket with a dark grey stripe running down each arm and a white stripe across the back. He was also wearing a blue woollen hat, blue jeans and brown canvas shoes with black shoes.
