Rape charge relating to death of Woodingdean mum is dropped

The charge of rape made against Stephen Edwards following the death of Pauline Jenkins in her Woodingdean home has been dropped, the Crown Prosecution Service has announced.

Ms Jenkins was found dead at her home in Rosebery Avenue in Woodingdean on February 5th 2011 and was later found to have died as a result of acute alcohol poisoning.

Mr Edwards, 46, of Merevale in Brighton, was arrested at the scene and charged with the rape of Ms Jenkins.

Tim Thompson Head of the Brighton Trials Unit said: “The case has been stopped on this particular charge at this stage, but the police investigation will be continuing. We will continue to work closely with them.”
