Martin Toal is a lucky charm for England

Ahead of the very first Brighton and Hove Albion match at the American Express Community Stadium the fans are to be treated to performances from tenor Martin Toal.

Mr Toal is known as ‘England’s Winning Tenor’ as in the six times he has sung prior to national team matches England have not lost or conceded a goal.

Albion will hope he is also a lucky charm for them ahead of their friendly with Tottenham on 30th July as they kick off in their long-awaited new home in Falmer.

The singer will lead the congregation of football fans in singing “Abide With Me” alongside the Farnborough Concert Band of the Royal British Legion in honour of the supporters who did not live to see Albion in their first permanent home since 1997.

Mr Toal said: “To sing Abide With Me will be a very poignant moment as there will be many Brighton fans who have sadly passed away in the years since the Goldstone Ground closed so it will be important to remember them all.

“The opening game will be for the fans and I am proud to be a part of it.”
