Women’s clothing chain Jane Norman has this morning entered administration, which could leave Brighton’s main shopping centre with another empty shop to fill.
The news follows the announcement that Habitat, which occupies a large part of Churchill Square, is placing its 30 non-London stores into administration.
Jane Norman, which has 90 shops, caters to young women, but is said to have some £140m worth of debt and is reported to have asked landlords to defer rent payments.
The move has seen the stores close and put 1,600 jobs at risk, although Debenhams is reportedly interested in buying the retailer, which is now placed in the hands of accountancy firm Zolfo Cooper.
