Dolly Dagger named Brighton’s Best Dressed shop

Boutique clothing store Dolly Dagger has been named Brighton’s Best Dressed shop as part of a scheme aimed at helping the city’s independent shops.

The Dressed for Success awards is run by Brighton and Hove City Council, who provided 42 independent shops with expert advice on how to make the most out of their window displays.

Thirty eight shops then entered the competition and almost 3,500 votes were submitted by the public.

Dolly Dagger, which is found on Brighton Place in the Lanes, was crowned overall Best Dressed and also Most Theatrical.

Frock UK in Rottingdean won the awards for Irresistable Image and Most Visually Stunning, while there was also awards for Vintiques (St James’s Street), Cyber Candy (Gardner Street – North Laine) and Union Jewellery (Union Street – North Laine).

Councillor Ian Davey said: “We have one of the UK’s best collections of independent shops and the council is keen to help them survive and thrive.

“Unlike chain stores, independents don’t have the backing of big organisations with lots of cash and expertise. So we stepped in to help local traders and the city’s economy in the run-up to Christmas.”

“The designs were of such a high standard and brought our shopping streets alive over the festive period. Congratulations to Dolly Dagger and the rest of the winners.”
