Tesco rumoured to be opening in Hangleton

Tesco are rumoured to be the supermarket chain that is planning to takeover the Hamseys furniture store in Hangleton.

The move, if confirmed is likely to trigger yet another local dispute as to whether the retail giant is a welcome addition to what is a relatively small shopping precinct near the Grenadier pub, just off Hangleton Road.

The family-run furniture store recently leafleted local residents announcing a closing down sale following an imminent takeover by an unnamed supermarket.

The supermarket is rumoured to be Tesco, who already has such an influence in the city with nine stores of varying size, including one large store relatively near by on Church Road.

The arrival of a Tesco would provide local competition to the Co-operative store on Hangleton Road and the new store would also be close to the large Sainsbury’s off the A293.

Hamseys is due to close its doors for the last time next month.

Hamseys is set to close in July
