London to Brighton veteran car run

The 78th London to Brighton Veteran Car Run took place this today with hundreds of the world’s oldest vehicles arriving at Madeira Drive during the afternoon.

The World’s longest running motoring event involved around 500 vehicles attempting to make their way from Hyde Park in London to Madeira Drive on the Brighton seafront.

Among the participating vehicles was the 1902 two-seater Mercedes-Simplex racing car, while a 1904 four-seater Mercedes-Simplex touring car was driven by F1 legend Nigel Mansell.

A quarter of drivers came from overseas, including competitors from America, Australia and China, while there were some 26 German competitors to mark the 125th anniversary of Mercedes Benz.

Pictures can be seen on the BBC’s website.
