Hollingbury community group saved from closure

A community group from Hollingbury has been saved by an emergency grant from Brighton and Hove City Council.

Together Group, which is based at Carden Park (Old Boat Corner) Community Centre, has received a £3,000 lifeline after the loss of a key member of staff left the service facing financial problems.

The group, which the council say helps to tackle inequality, is behind the Carden Tots playgroup. It also runs holiday play schemes and groups for young and older children and works closely with the council’s children’s services team.

The council’s cabinet member for communities, equality and public protection, Councillor Ben Duncan, said: “We are committed to tackling inequality in the city, and the Together Group is helping to do this. But it’s vital that they become financially sustainable.

“We have agreed this emergency funding on the basis that they must now work with us to finalise a robust business plan for the future and a balanced budget.”
