Labour Lord dismisses city council leader-in-waiting

Lord Bassam, or Baron Bassam of Brighton as he is also known, has dismissed the qualities of the leader-in-waiting for Brighton and Hove City Council, Cllr Jason Kitcat.

Cllr Kitcat is set to take over from Cllr Bill Randall after he was announced as the only candidate for the position of Convenor of the Green Party in the city.

Cllr Randall is stepping down as council leader after one year in the job and will become mayor of Brighton and Hove in May.

Steve Bassam, who was leader of Brighton Borough Council/Brighton and Hove Council from 1987 to 1999, has become a obsessed with criticising the Green Party on Twitter in recent months with Cllr Kitcat often at the centre of his Tweets.

In doing so he has become the most outspoken critic of the current council administration and the voice of the Labour party in the city.

Lord Bassam, who is a chief whip for the Labour party in the House of Lords, continued his vitriol towards the Green Party after it was announced Cllr Kitcat, currently cabinet member for finance, would be the only candidate to replace Cllr Randall.

The Labour Peer Tweeted: “B&H Greens select Jason Kitkat as Convenor & Council Leader. A Visionless Technocratic cuts expert with little feel for Cities needs.”
