Owners ordered to paint their home and remove sofa from garden

The owners of a property on Bonchurch Road, which is near Elm Grove, have been ordered to repaint their home and remove a sofa from their front garden.

A section 215 amenity notice has been served to Paul Nightingale, Angela Nightingale, Victoria Bond and Mervyn Elvey, who own 9 Bonchurch Road, which demands that within three months they must wash down and repaint the north wall of the property; cut back and remove overgrown vegetation and remove from all rubbish dumped in the garden, including furniture and domestic refuse.

The action was taken by the council’s planning enforcement team who seek to improve the condition and appearance of properties in the area, which is popular with the city’s student population.

Councillor Phelim, MacCafferty, chair of the city’s planning committee, said: “Eyesore properties such as this one have a negative effect on the whole neighbourhood. Where the state of property causes harm to the amenities of the neighbours or the street scene we will always seek to negotiate a solution. Sometimes, though, formal action is necessary to resolve the problem.”
