Caroline Lucas opens ‘Under the Bridge’ music studio

Green Party leader Caroline Lucas will this evening be officially reopening the new ‘Under the Bridge’ music studio, which is home to Radio Free Brighton.

Lucas, who is standing for election in Brighton Pavilion, will be cutting the ribbon to unveil the community radio station’s new home. This will be followed by a night of live music courtesy of some of Brighton’s best unsigned acts.

The new studio, which is found under Trafalgar Arches off Trafalgar Street in Brighton, was built by a team of volunteers and the materials were predominantly recycled or the “greenest” available.

Caroline Lucas says: “I’m so pleased to see Under The Bridge go from strength to strength. I remember the old premises as the lively hub of the Save Omar campaign and have had the pleasure of meeting a great deal of talented musicians that list Under the Bridge as their formative home. The new studios look fantastic and I’m sure we can expect many more great things to emerge from them.”

Jackie Chase, founder of the studio, said: “The word community is only ever used by government in a negative sense. I’ve been involved in community projects around Brighton for a long time now and Caroline has consistently shown her understanding of, and dedication to grass-roots movements.”

The acts that will be playing at tonight’s launch party include Deadbeats, Paper Faces, Violet Society, Lower the Tone and Marebito.
