Former Hove MP to stand in local elections

Former Hove MP Celia Barlow is to stand in May’s local elections in the Central Hove ward.

Labour’s Celia Barlow narrowly lost to the Conservatives Mike Weatherley in last year’s general election in the Hove and Portslade constituency, but is set for a quick return to politics.

Her decision has not been officially confirmed, but she is named on the newly relaunched Brighton and Hove Labour website as a candidate in Central Hove, which is currently held by Conservative councillors Jan Young and Averil Older.

Celia Barlow, who was a surprise election winner by just 420 votes in 2005, was one of many MPs to be caught up on the parliamentary expenses scandal of 2009.
