The Liberal Democrats are in the spotlight nationally, but in Brighton and Hove they are more often than not coming in fourth with regards to their coverage with the Green Party focusing so much attention on the Brighton Pavilion constituency.
While candidate for Hove Paul Elgood is well known as a councillor and a blogger, his colleagues Berni Millam and Juliet Williams, who are fighting for Brighton Pavilion and Brighton Kemptown respectively, are rather unknown quantities.
This week they were joined on the campaign trail by Brian Paddick, who stood for the Lib Dems in the London Mayoral Election in 2008 and is possible better known for his appearance in the jungle on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here, in the same year.
See the YouTube video below for what the former Deputy Assistant Commissioner for the Met Police had to say during his time in Brighton.
Meanwhile, Brian Eno, who is curating the Brighton Festival this year, has come out in support of the Liberal Democrats.
One recent issue that seemed key to local voters has been the pushing through of the Digital Economy Bill, but the Lib Dem’s local party chairman Lawrence Eke believes this is an example of when his party would represent their constituents.
Local party Chairman Lawrence Eke says; “Many voters are fed up with politicians that do not really represent their constituents. The Liberal Democrat opposition to the Digital Economy Bill is yet another example of the Liberal Democrats getting it right, while Labour, Tories and Greens couldn’t care less. Brian Eno’s support demonstrates that only the Liberal Democrat policies are in touch with the right people.”
