Poyet confirms Wolves approach was rejected

Gus Poyet has confirmed he was the subject of an approach from Wolves and that it was rejected by Brighton and Hove Albion.

It had been reported that the Premiership strugglers had identified the Brighton and Hove Albion boss as a candidate to take charge at Molineux, but the Midlands club were told on Monday to look elsewhere.

Poyet said he didn’t have a decision to make as he wasn’t given the opportunity to talk to Wolves, but he continues to be coy about his long term future at the Amex.

After Wednesday night’s goalless draw away to fellow play-off hopefuls Hull City, Poyet said: “There was an approach but it came and went.

“I didn’t have any decisions to make, anything to think about. I was not involved at all.

“It was not difficult for me, I was not involved at any time.”

The Uruguayan added: “I’ve said a few times that we all aim for the same – players want to play at the highest level, I want to manage in the Premier League.

“At the moment the easiest way will be in the next two or three years or whatever it takes with Brighton.

“If we don’t then I need to move on because I want to manage at the top. I’m not going to lie to people. I don’t want to wait 20 years but it doesn’t need to happen now.”
