Seagulls worried with Wolves on the prowl

Brighton and Hove Albion boss Gus Poyet has emerged as a frontrunner for the vacant managerial position at Premiership strugglers Wolves.

It has been reported that the Midlands outfit have asked Albion for permission to speak to the Uruguayan as they search for a replacement to Mick McCarthy, who was sacked last week.

Wolverhampton Wanderers had initially been linked with Neil Warnock, Alan Curbishley and Steve Bruce, but only the former Sunderland boss remains in contention.

It has always been expected that a big club would come sniffing for Poyet who did wonders in achieving promotion for Albion last season, while his club have impressed in the Championship and find themselves just a few points outside the play offs.

In recent weeks Poyet has been linked with Leeds and the possibly soon-to-be-vacant job at Tottenham where he was previously assistant to Juande Ramos.

Brighton’s supporters will anxiously waiting news on what happens next and will hope Poyet’s only focus is on the Tigers of Hull City, who Albion face on Wednesday.

The latest news is that Poyet is second favourite for the job at Molineux at 7/4.
