Cllr Morgan claims Tories concede in East Brighton

Labour councillor Warren Morgan has this evening claimed that the Conservatives have conceded defeat in the East Brighton ward on the eve of the local election.

East Brighton is currently occupied by three Labour candidates, including Warren Morgan and local Labour leader Gill Mitchell, as well as Craig Turton, all three of which are defending their seats.

The Conservatives have run a vocal campaign in the ward with Peter Booth, Chris Sandland and Kelvin Poplett making up their trio of candidates, but Cllr Morgan claims on Twitter that the Tories have given up hope in the ward.

He said: “Pleased to hear Tories have conceded defeat in my ward to try to save a seat elsewhere. Reward for my team’s efforts over last 12 months.”

Brighton and Hove’s council is finely poised with the Conservatives desperate to cling on to an overall majority with the prospect of a Green and Labour coalition working against them.

Going into the election the Tories have 25 seats, while Labour and the Green Party each have 13.

It should be stressed this is an unsubstantiated claim by Councillor Morgan.
