Six arrested following hammer attack in Roedean squat

A man required hospital treatment after being attacked by a hammer in a fight at a squat in Roedean, which resulted in six arrests.

The fight took place yesterday (12th December) at around 6.20pm at The Cliff in Roedean and Sussex Police were called to end the disorder and make a series of arrests, including one on suspicion of making ‘threats to kill’.

The victim of the hammer attack, a 41-year-old man from Portslade, was released from Royal Sussex County Hospital overnight

Detective Sergeant Helen Paine said: “Officers responded quickly to stop the disorder and to arrest those involved. The incident is now under investigation.”

Police said they are attempting to improve the situation concerning the The Cliff property, which is near to the affluent parts of Roedean.

Insp Andrew Fleming, Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are in conversation with the owner of the property and are looking at ways of resolving the issues that it currently causes in the area.”

The four men and two women arrested are currently in custody. Their details are as follows:

30-year-old man – suspicion of affray
20-year-old woman – suspicion of affray
35-year-old man – suspicion of affray
35-year-old man – suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and affray,
43-year-old man – suspicion of threats to kill
39-year-old woman – suspicion of obstructing police.
