Woman charged with racial abuse and robbery after Bevendean raid

A woman from Brighton has been charged in relation to a robbery at the Happy Shopper convenience store in Bevendean last Tuesday (11th October).

Jessica Tipping, 26, of Ghyllside, has been charged with causing racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress; and robbery.

She is accused of stealing cash, wine and cigarettes to the value of £300 from the shop on Upper Bevendean Avenue shortly before 5pm on 11th October.

Tipping had been remanded in custody before appearing at Brighton Magistrates’ Court today.

The shop assistant suffered a superficial knife wound during the incident, which was followed less than 48 hours later by a second unrelated robbery at the same store.
